Product Description

The SER Project is a collaborative development of self-sustaining and modular Rural Energy Systems (RES). These systems are designed to provide drinking water, electric power and thermal energy through the transformation of solar energy, table salt and grey water (underground, fluvial, rainwater or even night humidity).

Engineered by the Argentinian start-up Box Synergy, the SER Project. Each device is installed in one hour and a half and serves the energy and water needs of over 60 people. Due to their modular design, they can be adapted to local needs.

Videos are available about the SER project and the performance of the system.

Distributions to Date Status

For July 2018, SER project was in a prototype phase, previous to its distribution and commercialization. Pilot tests with the Rural Energy Systems have been done in the field, however, they have not been distributed yet.Interview with representative

Design Specifications

Design specifications include elements for the drinking water unit, electric power and thermal energy unit. The drinking water unit is composed of a 27 litres water tank, a 7-stage filtering system and an electric pump. The electric power unit comprehends solar panels with a nominal power of 36 W, a battery (12 V, 33 A) and a regulator (500 W to 220 V, 6 sockets; 60 W to 12 V, 1 socket; 6 W to 5 V, 1 USB port). The thermal energy unit is composed of a solar thermal collector with an on/off valve and an electrical resistance. It has a 360 W electric stove. The electric power unit can carry solar panels of up to 300 W and could provide internet to the rural schools. One SER system weighs 50 kgs and package dimensions for shipping are 1.50 (height) x 0.5 x 0.5 m.

Manufacturer Specified Performance Parameters

SER project's main objective is to improve the living conditions in Argentinian rural off-grid schools within modular and integrated energy systems that provide drinking water, electric power and thermal energy, and that can be adapted to specific site needs. SER project aims to prevent diseases related to drinking unsafe water, carbon monoxide poisoning while improving housing comfort in schools.Interview with representative

Vetted Performance Status

The SER's drinking water unit purifies 10,000 L/day of water, providing 4.5 litres per person each day. The water system reuses up to 66% of the water and the generated chlorine is used at a rate of 1 drop=1 litre of water. One SER system can charge up to 18 notebooks and phones per day and heat ambient-temperature 27 litres of water to 55ºC in hours with the solar thermal collector. A litre of water can be boiled in the electric stove within 10 minutes and the electric stove maintains cooking temperature for 20 minutes once turned off.Interview with representative
