Call for scientific and non-academic reviewers for LIRA2030 – Pathways towards Sustainable Urban Development in Africa
Leading Integrated Research for Agenda 2030 (LIRA2030) in Africa is a 5-year programme that seeks to increase the production of high-quality, integrated (inter- and transdisciplinary), solutions-oriented research on global sustainability by early career scientists in Africa. The knowledge will be used to address complex sustainability challenges in the region. The LIRA 2030 programme is run by the International Science Council together with its Regional Office for Africa and in strong partnership with the Network of African Science Academies (NASAC). The Programme is supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and will run until December 2020.
To ensure that science can effectively contribute to sustainable urban development in Africa, the International Science Council, in partnership with the Network of African Science Academies (NASAC), with financial support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), will support up to 12 collaborative research projects across Africa (to the value of up to €90,000 each over two years) in 2019. These projects are expected to generate new solutions-oriented, integrated knowledge required in the practice of sustainable urban development in Africa.
We are now looking for scientists and non-academic experts with expertise in urban governance and planning; provision of services in cities (e.g. clean drinking water, sanitation, energy, health, housing, waste treatment transportation); ecosystem-based approaches to urban resilience; disaster risk reduction; air pollution, and climate mitigation and adaptation in the urban context to review full proposals between November 2018 and mid January 2019. Experience in inter- and transdisciplinary research would be of great value. Guidelines for review will be provided and a remuneration for this task (€20 per proposal) is available.
If you are interested in contributing to our efforts in making African cities more sustainable and resilient by reviewing proposal(s), please contact firstname.lastname@example.org by 12 November 2018.
