Project Engineer – Coral Restoration Technology – Apply by Nov.12, 2018

One of the greatest ecological challenges of our time is to prevent the ongoing degradation and potential collapse of the world’s coral reefs. To sustain healthy coral reefs, we need a strategic, coordinated effort that targets breakthroughs in marine science, conservation, and worldwide education.SECORE International is a non-profit with the mission of giving coral reefs a future through research, restoration, outreach and education. In collaboration with the California Academy of Sciences, the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS), The Nature Conservancy, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Coral Restoration Consortium (CRC) and other partners, SECORE endeavors to (1) foster novel research around coral restoration ecology and technology, (2) develop and implement innovative technology for large-scale restoration, and (3) expand project sites and training in this newly-developed technology around the globe.SECORE partners with the Autodesk Foundation and other leading cross-disciplinary experts that provide integral capacity to our technology development efforts. Together with the California Academy of Sciences and The Nature Conservancy, SECORE has recently launched the Global Coral Restoration Project to advance the science, technology and application of innovative coral restoration techniques.SECORE seeks a Project Engineer to join the team fulfilling this vision. The successful candidate will work to advance the design and engineering of coral restoration technology, integrate and upscale processes from manufacturing to deployment, and build partnerships that will further increase the technical capacity of the SECORE team.
● Provide technical advice on SECORE’s technology and process development projects; specifically working with AIMS and CRC partners to meet shared goals
● Lead and/or manage individuals or teams of engineering experts lent to SECORE projects
● Liaise with technical experts from for-profit and non-profit organizations partnering with SECORE
● Manage engineering projects, provide project logistics support, and track project success metrics.● Utilize and study SECORE mission and project goals to determine project
requirements and timelines
● Test performance of designs and projects in collaboration with SECORE team
● Coordinate logistics of projects and keep projects on time, within scope and within budget. Submit progress reports periodically.
● Troubleshoot and provide excellent problem solving skills for any changes needed on projects
Minimum Qualifications:
● Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 3 – 5 years of experience
● Proficiency in at least one of the following areas: industrial or product design, process engineering, environmental engineering, or marine engineering
● Experience leading technical teams and managing projects
● Strong technical writing and oral communication skills
● Self-motivated and able to work independently
● Willingness and ability to travel to international field sites, work on small boats, and work in remote areas
● Ability to conduct light physical work; to traverse uneven terrain and lift/carry up to 25lbs
● SCUBA certified, or willingness to become certified
● Must have a valid passport
● Must be legally eligible to work in the US

Desired Qualifications:
● Cross-disciplinary experience and skills highly desired, along with a demonstrated ability to work with a team and communicate effectively
● Creative thinker with the ability to address challenges in novel ways
● Ability to break-down and communicate technical concepts to the whole team, many of which will not be engineers
● Experience using Solidworks, Autodesk, or other CAD software
● Passion for marine conservation and willingness to learn about coral biology and restoration
