Specialized Volunteer: Volunteer as a Structural Engineer in Kenya

Overview: At the International Humanity Foundation (IHF) we care for impoverished youth who have been neglected due to poverty, disease, and/or disaster. Since our inception, IHF has been fueled by the efforts of volunteers from all over the world. Volunteers remain a critical part of our mission, particularly those with specialty skill-sets and experience.

A Specialty Volunteer will use their specific set of skills to help us fill an important need at one of our IHF Centers. You will have the opportunity to offer your professional skills while engaging in service that addresses our Children’s specific needs. You will also have the opportunity to immerse yourself in what is means to live like a local by staying with us at our local IHF Center.

Volunteers who sign up to be a part of our Orphan Care in Kenya project make a very real impact on the children living in the IHF Children’s Home.

Volunteers with professional skill-sets in structural engineering are welcome to apply for this program.

Location:  Nakuru, Kenya

Current Project Need:

The IHF Nakuru Center in Kenya is in need of a qualified structural engineer to come and examine the center and make recommendations for repairs as well as help us design structural solutions based on those recommendations.

We are looking for structural engineers who can commit at least one week and spend 4 to 8 hours per day volunteering their services. Your contribution will help to ensure that IHF is continuing to provide a structurally sound and safe place to the children who call our center home.

Qualifications: A degree and professional experience in structural or civil engineering.

Program Cost

Volunteers helping us with specialty projects pay a weekly fee of $100 USD. This fee helps us to cover the cost of your stay at our center, so we ensure we are not diverting funds from our children.

On-site accommodation and meals prepared by a local member of staff are included in this program.

Not included are your travel costs to and from our IHF Center, visa fees, immunizations, travel insurance, and any spending money you wish to bring with you.

Additional Fundraising Needs: The professional opinion of this volunteer will allow us to create a budget for structural solutions.
