[Lab Design & Testing] (http://ecozoomstove.com/pages/lab-field-testing “http://ecozoomstove.com/pages/lab-field-testing”): Functional prototypes are created and tested in a lab in partnership with the Aprovecho Research Center and by third party experts to ensure they provide an efficient and safe cooking experience. Aprovecho tests all EcoZoom stoves in the lab before they are taken into the field to ensure they are fuel efficient and emissions efficient. Stoves have also been tested by the US Environmental Protection Agency. Some reports available upon request, others are confidential as requested by the testing entity. The Zoom Dura was tested by DelAgua, who piloted over 2,000 of the cookstoves in rural Rwanda and conducted extensive monitoring and evaluation to test end user uptake.
Ecozoom indicates that they use the standard laboratory test conducted for cookstoves – the [5-liter Water Boiling Test] (http://catalog.cleancookstoves.org/#/glossary “http://catalog.cleancookstoves.org/#/glossary”) (WBT). The WBT is a laboratory-based test that can be used to measure how efficiently a stove uses fuel to heat water in a cooking pot and the quantity of emissions produced while cooking. This test can be used to evaluate stove changes during development, compare the effectiveness of different designs, select the most promising products for field trials, and ensure that manufactured stoves meet intended performance.
Ecozoom also follows a [5-step design process] (http://ecozoomstove.com/pages/design “http://ecozoomstove.com/pages/design”) before introducing stoves into developing markets to ensure adoption.
