[Eyejusters Ltd] (https://www.eyejusters.com/devworld/ “https://www.eyejusters.com/devworld/”) designs, manufactures and sells the glasses. Organizations can purchase distribution kits from Eyejusters Ltd and deploy the glasses in the communities they work in. Eyejusters Ltd also sells glasses to distributors in developed countries and a portion of these sales covers donations of glasses that will be sent to distrutors in developing countries. Organizations that have done distributions include Peace Corps, Developing World Connections, Vision Action, Eyes for the World, and Mobile Health International.
[Retail price] (http://www.ssireview.org/articles/entry/better_vision_for_the_poor ” http://www.ssireview.org/articles/entry/better_vision_for_the_poor “) of glasses available for purchase on eyejusters.com range from $40-59 USD. Glasses paid for through the buy-one-give-one program are donated at no cost to organizations distributing Eyejusters in developing countries. In certain circumstances, distributing organisations have small charges for end users to cover some of the costs of their development projects in local communities. [Eyejusters] (https://www.eyejusters.com/buy/ “https://www.eyejusters.com/buy/”) can be puchased in bulk and at reduced cost by organizations wishing to distribute them in developing countries. The price is then ~$15 USD.

[Vision Spring] (http://visionspring.org/ “http://visionspring.org/”)
is another organization involved in distribution of glasses in developing countries, although not adjustable glasses. They have trained “vision entrepreneurs” who conduct vision screenings and dispense ready made glasses to bottom of the pyramid customers.
Goal (http://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/sustainable-development-goals/ “http://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/sustainable-development-goals/”): to improve and promote good health.
[Individuals] (http://seriousstartups.com/2012/12/21/uk-startup-eyejusters-changing-vision-developing-world/ “http://seriousstartups.com/2012/12/21/uk-startup-eyejusters-changing-vision-developing-world/”) in developing countries in need of glasses, but without access to trained optometrists. (Eyejusters is also targeted at customers in developed countries who wear multiple glasses, each with a different purpose.)

Online orders are available for shipment to the US, Canada, UK, and Europe . Individuals in developing countries can get [Eyejusters] (https://www.eyejusters.com/devworld/ “https://www.eyejusters.com/devworld/”) through organizations in their communities working as local distributors (methods of identifying beneficiaries and distribution differs from organization to organization). some donation some partially subsidized.
Eyejusters are metal frame glasses with SlideLens™ technology. Each SlideLens is a pair of lenses with a special shape. When these lenses are slid across each other (left-to-right), their combined shapes act as if they were one lens with a changing spherical surface. The SlideLens technology allows Eyejusters users to [self-adjust] (http://inhabitat.com/eyejusters-are-self-adjustable-glasses-that-let-you-alter-your-own-prescription/slidelens-eyejuster-glasses/ “http://inhabitat.com/eyejusters-are-self-adjustable-glasses-that-let-you-alter-your-own-prescription/slidelens-eyejuster-glasses/”) their glasses to their own vision needs. The glasses are adjusted with a removable dial on the side of the frame.
The adjustable eyewear comes in two types: negative power to correct poor distance vision and positive power to correct near and far-sightedness.
Each Eyejuster box includes: Pair of Eyejusters; Re-attachable adjuster dials; Hard plastic case; Cleaning cloth; Instructions and close vision chart.
[Eyejusters] (https://eyejusters.com/devworld/ “https://eyejusters.com/devworld/”) has comprehensive technical and support documents available on their website for distributors.
Eyejusters also offers direct technical support via phone or email.
Support in the field for benificiaries is provided by the organization overseeing local distributions.

The frame is designed for easy maintenance; the two lens parts can be hinged apart to remove dust, dirt and water.

Eyejusters is a relatively new product (launched in 2011) and no information about vetted performance is available yet.
However, a number of peer-reviewed studies have validated the efficacy of self-refraction, the principle Eyejusters is based on^(1,2,3). These studies have found self-refraction to be as accurate as other field refraction methods, such as auto-refraction. Self-refraction has also been found to approach the quality of a field refractionist performing subjective refraction, the gold standard of refractive eyecare. Eyejusters credits the vetted performance of these other self-adjustable glasses in the developing world as the foundation for Eyejusters.
[Eyejusters] (https://eyejusters.com/ “https://eyejusters.com/”) Ltd has developed SlideLens technology in-house, claiming to have “designed, simulated and measured the lenses with nanometre-scale precision to ensure the best quality optical experience.”
Eyejusters is still in its early stages of growth and is currently establishing a data collection system with international distributors. Collected data will allow for statistical analysis of Eyejuster’s performance and impact around the world.
As a class 1 medical device (deemed to be low risk) Eyejusters pose little to no risk to their user.
Eyejusters Ltd does state that their product is intended for users age 14+ to ensure proper fit.
Eyejusters have not been the direct subject of any published academic research. However, there are several published academic papers on self-adjustable glasses, and the process of self-adjustment (called ‘self-refraction’). There have also been related field studies in Ghana, Nepal, Malawi, Nicaragua, China and South Africa. All of these related studies were foundational to Eyejusters’ development and are referred to by Eyejusters Ltd as validation for their product. These studies include:
