The satellite imaging company Planet is hiring a Senior Electrical Engineer

Planet is hiring a senior electrical engineer to design and qualify power subsystems for its satellite fleet. You’ll work on MPPTs, high-voltage converters, propulsion PPUs, and power regulation/distribution for nano and small satellites. The role includes schematic design, PCB layout oversight, PCBA bring-up, automated test development, and on-orbit anomaly support. This hybrid position requires three days per week in the San Francisco HQ.

Responsibilities

  • Design high-voltage power subsystems and support manufacturing documentation
  • Lead PCBA validation, EMI/EMC and thermal qualification, and launch-load readiness
  • Develop automated test procedures with manufacturing teams
  • Troubleshoot on-orbit spacecraft issues

Requirements

  • 10+ years PCB design, including 5+ in power electronics
  • BS in Electrical/Computer Engineering or similar
  • Experience with >500 V switching converters, SiC/GaN components, and mixed-signal design
  • Strong PCB layout knowledge, embedded systems experience, and proficiency with lab equipment
  • Advanced Altium skills and scripting (Python preferred)

Bonus Skills

Custom magnetics, MPPTs/solar arrays, electric propulsion, and aerospace/LEO experience.

  • Role subject to EAR/ITAR requirements
  • SF salary range: $182,900–$228,600 USD
