About Roma Avhad
Roma is currently a fourth-year PhD student in Mechanical Engineering at The University of Texas at Dallas, advised by Dr. Shuang Cui. Her research focuses on energy storage systems, including thermal energy storage within the building envelope, thermochemical energy storage systems for concentrated solar power plants, and thermoregulating electrolytes for zinc-ion batteries. She is passionate about applying engineering to develop more sustainable communities, and is an active volunteer with IEEE Smart Village, a non-profit supporting clean energy initiatives in energy-impoverished communities.

Positive people. I'm lucky to say that I've met people who regardless of how stressful a situation is, are able to stay positive and believe that they can find a solution, and that energy makes all the difference. I know how difficult it is to keep that demeanor when times get tough, which is why I find it so inspiring when I see someone like that.
I'm very hopeful of the potential of wide scale solar implementation, especially as the cost of solar panels has dropped so significantly in recent years. This also comes with the simultaneous deployment of affordable energy storage, which is why I'm so excited about batteries and their role in the energy transition.
