2026 E4C AI Pilot Hackathon

Build responsible, high‑impact AI tools for engineering and sustainable development.

Three people collaborating using sticky notes, a notepad, and a computer.

About the Hackathon

Engineering for Change (E4C) invites engineers, developers, researchers, and innovators to participate in a one‑week virtual hackathon focused on creating responsible, domain‑specific AI tools for engineering and sustainable development. Participants will design and prototype AI‑assisted knowledge systems using curated E4C datasets, transparent model workflows, and responsible AI guardrails. Teams gain access to collaborative workspaces and a global community committed to evidence‑grounded, human‑centered problem solving.

Challenge Details

The E4C AI Hackathon invites teams to build functional prototypes that demonstrate how responsible, domain‑specific AI tools can support engineering for sustainable development. Teams will work with E4C’s curated datasets and AI pilot capabilities to create knowledge systems that improve decision‑grade outcomes in real‑world contexts.

The hackathon is fully virtual, open globally, and teams may include 1-5 participants. A total prize pool of USD 7,500 will be awarded, with three winning teams receiving USD 2,500 each.

Participants may choose from three challenge tracks, each exploring a different engineering domain or use case for AI‑assisted analysis and insight generation.

  • Track 1: Technically Speaking: AI‑Powered Engineering Insights
  • Track 2: Check My Tech: Readiness Review with AI
  • Track 3: From Constraints to Concepts: AI‑Aided Design

During the week, teams will have access to 1) knowledgeXpert, E4C knowledgeBases, appXpert, and workflowXpert (see Bear Creek Ai for more information), and 2) collaborative workspace tools and communication channels.
