
About Ralph Carlo Evidente
Currently, I am working at K1-MET GmbH, developing bioelectrochemical and chemical precipitation techniques for struvite recovery from sewage sludge ash (SSA)-derived leachate. In parallel, I am contributing to Nth Cycle’s electro-extraction technology as an Engineering for Change (E4C) Fellow, conducting materials research to enhance sustainable critical metal recovery processes. I was an Erasmus Mundus scholar ('22), graduated magna cum laude with an International Joint MSc (IMSc.) Degree in Sustainable and Innovative Natural Resource Management from Ghent University, Uppsala University, and Freiberg University of Mining and Technology, partnered with the EIT Raw Materials Academy. My training spans georesource exploration to sustainable extraction processes, enabling the design of advanced material systems for circular economy solutions. Additionally, I hold a European Specializing Masters diploma from Politecnico di Milano in Nuclear Fuel Cycle Monitoring, Nuclear Safeguards, and Non-Proliferation, awarded as an ENEN full scholar. Previously, I contributed to R&D projects at Helmholtz Centers, working on multiphysics-based separation for battery recycling, electrocatalysis with nanostructured LDH TMO-MXenes, and nanoscale characterization of 2D materials via X-ray Photoemission Electron Microscopy (XPEEM). I also completed research stays at INEMET@TUBAF, CNR-ISMN (Italy), JRC Ispra, and JRC Karlsruhe, advancing hydrometallurgical/membrane separation techniques, alternative metakaolin-based geopolymers, and nuclear 3S (Safety, Security, and Safeguards) design for EU candidate countries. Earlier in my career, I served as a graduate researcher in a joint BK21 project specializing in nuclear safety, radioactive waste management, and computational fluid-particle dynamics simulations for APR1400 and SMR configurations. After graduating with first honors (cum laude) in ABET-accredited Chemical Engineering BSc degree, I taught and conducted research at Mapúa University (Philippines) on biomass energy conversion and techno-economic assessments for renewable energy systems. My passion lies in driving sustainable innovations across raw materials, energy, food, and mobility sectors, through academic research, industrial collaboration, and results-oriented field applications. I am committed to contributing to global sustainability challenges, particularly in developing regions and marginalized communities.

I’m inspired by the way science and engineering can transform challenges into solutions — whether it’s recovering critical metals from waste, designing bioelectrochemical systems to clean water, or developing new materials for green energy. Seeing ideas move from lab experiments to real-life impact fires me up every day. I believe we can build a sustainable, low-carbon world — and I want to be part of the team making it happen.
Absolutely — energy storage and conversion are game-changers! From batteries that store solar and wind power for when the sun doesn’t shine, to fuel cells, electrolyzers, and advanced hydrogen systems — these technologies keep clean energy flowing reliably. They’re the bridge between renewable energy and real-world use, powering everything from electric cars to green industries. Without smart ways to store and convert energy, sustainability can’t scale. :)
I’d say it’s my ability to spread positivity! Whether I’m tackling tough research challenges, working in diverse teams, or connecting with people worldwide, I bring optimism and energy to keep moving forward. Positivity turns obstacles into opportunities — and makes even the biggest sustainability goals feel possible.
