Overview Energy seeks a Hardware Development Intern – Mechanical
Location: Ashburn, VA (On-site)
Employment Type: Full-time, Internship (10 Weeks)
The Company:
Overview Energy is developing space-based solar energy solutions. Headquartered in the DC area, the company is building next-generation satellite technology to deliver constant, clean power globally.
The Role:
This internship offers hands-on experience in the design, build, and test of spacecraft systems. The intern will support mechanical engineering projects, contribute to prototyping, and help validate designs for the company’s first orbital mission.
Responsibilities:
- Design mechanical components and assemblies using CAD (SolidWorks/NX).
- Assist with prototype assembly and rapid prototyping efforts.
- Support environmental testing and design validation.
- Collaborate with engineers to refine designs for manufacturability.
Qualifications:
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
- Experience with 3D CAD and FEA tools.
- Familiarity with mechanical assembly or prototyping.
- U.S. citizenship required (ITAR).
Preferred:
- Previous internship experience.
- Knowledge of GD&T, DFM, or spacecraft design.
- Experience with CNC, 3D printing, or basic programming (Python).
