Project Overview
Project Description
This project will support in the design and creation of a highly detailed model of a trailer-based nitrogen removal unit (NRU) to assist with the conversion of raw landfill biogas into bioenergy and biofuels, such as renewable natural gas (RNG). This project would build on a conceptual design of a mobile, modular NRU system, which converts harmful greenhouse gases generated from landfills and other bio-derived sources into low-carbon fuels, such as RNG, through a mobile chemical process. This project will focus on complete sub-skid system designs to a manufacture-ready state with design details to begin fabrication. The Fellow will complete highly detailed 3D models, create fabrication drawings, and build upon a manufacturable system design that will result in a field-ready system for rapid deployment domestically and globally.
Impact
This project will provide valuable engineering, design, and business support to M2X Energy for ongoing development of mobile gas-to-fuel processes designed to reduce global GHG emissions by converting biogas and other bio-derived gases into renewable natural gas. This technology would have local and global impacts, converting under-utilized landfills into useful project sites. This impacts areas mostly influenced by climate change. M2X is seeking to manufacture and deploy these systems in areas to improve good health, provide affordable and clean energy, create industry and innovation, and derive value from waste products. M2X’s mission is to develop and deploy technologies that can provide low-carbon fuels and chemicals, where this project would naturally enhance efforts to reduce carbon emissions and efforts to reach net-zero by 2050.
