About Vincent Muchiri

I am a Project Engineer specializing in addressing complex challenges in the renewable energy and climate impact sector. By leveraging a systems thinking approach, I develop sustainable, context-driven solutions to technical and socio-economic issues impacting communities across sub-Saharan Africa. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Kenya), where I developed a strong foundation in technical skills, including data science and design. These competencies have been instrumental in my work within research and innovation. Throughout my career, I have consistently demonstrated strong communication and teamwork skills, critical thinking, and a self-driven attitude. I thrive in challenge-oriented environments and am passionate about making a lasting impact through innovative and sustainable solutions.

Nature. Mother Nature has been innovating for billions of years, and as an engineer who aims to develop sustainable and creative solutions, I can learn a great deal from her.

Renewable energy and Internet of Things. The energy sector is one of the largest producers of carbon emissions and waste heat. Decarbonizing it by increasing the share of renewable energy in production reduces emissions and improves the carbon footprint of other sectors downstream, such as electric mobility and clean cooking. At the same time, we can enhance the efficiency of existing infrastructure and machinery through the Internet of Things (IoT). Waste heat from industrial processes is often overlooked in climate action. A significant portion of the produced energy is lost as heat due to inefficient machines and processes, creating increased demand that is typically met by non-renewable energy sources.

Well, is empathy a superpower? It's hard to picture and certainly not very cinematic (if you know, you know). You need empathy—not just toward humans, but toward the entire ecosystem—to develop holistic and sustainable solutions. These solutions can take the form of complex or simple technologies, policies, or social behavioral changes. Either way, if we don't meet users where they are, we risk defaulting to creating solutions for ourselves.
