Morocco’s Earthquake Wasn’t Unexpected – Building Codes Must Plan for Them

Much of the death and destruction that Morocco suffered following a magnitude 6.8 earthquake in September, 2023, could have been avoided. Using the results from seismic hazard studies, engineers should establish national building codes and incorporate seismic safety into designs.
