You'll have access to a multi-disciplinary team of UC Berkeley graduate students who will generate prototypes, analyses, and recommendations at no cost to you.

Ash Seth, Social Innovation Consultant for Sustainable Development, is calling for requests to engage UC Berkeley graduate students in prototyping, analysis and consultation for projects.

The deadline to submit is Monday, August 18, 2025

We invite faculty members, non-profits, researchers, and social ventures to submit requests for project support during the Fall 2025 semester. You’ll have access to a multi-disciplinary team of UC Berkeley graduate students who will generate prototypes, analyses, and recommendations at no cost to you. Student teams will be enrolled in the course, Development Engineering 200, a project-based course focused on technology innovation for underserved settings.

We’re looking for well-scoped projects that can leverage Berkeley’s expertise in data science, engineering, design, business, and/or user research. Projects with some maturity are ideal — e.g. building on a product or program already implemented in a specific geography or context, with knowledgeable partners who can facilitate students’ access to key stakeholders.

Benefits to our clients include a semester’s worth of graduate student research time, faculty mentoring, and technical outputs (e.g. technology designs, prototypes, user surveys, data analyses, impact evaluation designs, implementation strategies, final reports).

The google form for submitting a project is here.

See this link for guidance on considerations for project proposals, including project types, project requirements, and key features of previously successful projects.
