I will limit my comment to PPE & Masks. Here in Africa hospital admission cost for Covid victims is exorbitant because of PPE kits. In Phillipines they are making affordable PPE suit & masks from a fiber of banana-like tree indigenous of there called Abaca. The suit is reusable after fumigation & other sterilization protocols & when it needs to be discarded it is biodegradable. Here in Kenya we produce lots for bananas for food but the tree stem is left to rot aerobically in the open. Assuming our species of banana tree fiber is not much different from Abaca, then there is opportunity of bringing down Covid hospitalization cost in Africa simultaneously aiding climate change mitigation effort, fulfilling S.D.Gs 7,9,13 & 17 & comprehensively addressing all this anti covid medical accessories disposal menace to the environment.
