The Dutch Latrine Bag is a large, strong plastic bag used to line latrine pits. The bag both prevents human waste from contaminating the groundwater table, and allows for the waste to be more easily recycled for agricultural or biogas applications.
Distributors / Implementing Organizations
The bags are distributed directly from the manufacturer.
The Dutch Latrine Bags are manufactured using a thick, strong plastic sheeting to create a cylindrical bag. The bags are then installed into dug pits and secured with a support structure to the walls and pit bottom.

Manufacturer Specified Performance Parameters
The manufacturer specifies performance targets related to preventing the groundwater table from becoming polluted due to human waste in latrines, simplifying the latrine construction process, reducing latrine construction cost, and re-using waste for agricultural applications or as fertilizers.
Vetted Performance Status
The bags were developed prevent human waste from contaminating the groundwater table. When bags are removed from pits, care must be taken to not handle the human waste.
Complementary Technical Systems
The bags are used together with constructed pits and existing latrines.
