The Dutch Latrine Bag is a large, strong plastic bag used to line latrine pits. The bag both prevents human waste from contaminating the groundwater table, and allows for the waste to be more easily recycled for agricultural or biogas applications.

Design Specifications
Each bag is designed to have a diameter of 1 meter, with a depth ranging up to 1.8 meter, dependent on the number of latrine users. In addition the plastic material used was chosen be strong enough to withstand the weight of waste when emptying a pit, and to have small enough pores to prevent bacteria and nitrate from seeping into the groundwater table.
