Sun Mobility’s Quick Interchange Stations (QIS) are a collection of stations which are used to swap depleted batteries with charged units. The technology is designed to serve electric 2 & 3 wheelers, and buses. The Stations are developed and in operation in India.

Sun Mobility charges 0.2 USD (15 INR)Converted Aug 2020 to run 100 km on an electric battery. The manufacturer aims for this cost to be shared with the energy provider, the city corporation or council, the operator and the OEM.

Design Specifications

The Quick Interchange Station (QIS) for 2-3 wheelers can support vehicles ranging from 2-wheelers up to micro trucks and can perform more than 200 battery swaps per day. Each Smart Battery can be swapped in under 2 minutes so that users do not have to wait 4-8 hours for their batteries to charge. RFID enabled key fobs are used for authentication and digital payments for the energy consumed. The QIS for buses is an automated station that supports multiple bus formats, with the capacity to perform more than 300 swaps per day with each swap taking less than 3 minutes. Liquid conditioning is designed to ensure temperature regulation of the battery packs while charging. The lithium-ion battery packs feature an Intelligent Battery Management System to monitor battery vitals and optimise performance for long life and safety. The packs have a tamperproof exterior with an electro-mechanical lock, over 30 onboard sensors and GPS tracking to maintain security against misuse or theft.
