MSR SE200 Community Chlorine Maker is a portable device that generates chlorine, which can be used to disinfect water.
MSR SE220 Community Chlorine Maker is a device that can generate up to 200 litres of chlorine solution in a single back and requires salt, water and power for the functioning. Users pour the chlorine solution in water which becomes potable after 5 minutes.

PATH, an international non-profit organization in collaboration with MSR Global Health, a Seattle based manufacturer and division of Cascade Designs Inc., developed the product in the US. The product is manufactured in US and some parts are imported.

This product works on Electrochlorination technology. Users mix salt brine, add it to the chlorine maker, and push the start button. Indicator lights and sounds signal a successful completion or troubleshooting. The product requires a 12-V battery.

The product comes with a limited warranty but can run for a lifetime of 5+ years.
Validated by end users in over a dozen low-resource settings, including communities in Kenya, Mali, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and Thailand.
Field trials were performed in 2010 in 10 countries with the help of field implementing partners like World Vision, Mercy Crops, Antenna Technologies and US and Thai Militaries. Based on their feedback, the product was modified.
Caution when working with electricity near water
Safe water storage units, water filtration units
30 households were selected for testing in Kenya in 2010. A study was conducted on them determining the water behaviour, norms and water quality of the water. Water quality was analyzed before and after adding chlorine from MSR SE200.
