Rocker Water Pump
The Full Belly Project
The Rocker Water Pump is a manually operated foot pump that allows the user to operate it by shifting their weight in a rocking manner.
The Rocker Water Pump is a foot operated water pump designed by the Full Belly Project to allow farmers in remote areas to irrigate their crops during the dry seasons. It enables small hold farmers to get more food from two acres of land and therefore generate more income. It operates by the user standing on the pump and shifting their weight from side to side.
Distribution is through individual sales, partnerships with other non-profit organizations and for-profit businesses.

The Full Belly Project is working with local manufacturers and partner NGOs to produce the pumps completely locally; these producers are trained and able to provide technical services.
Replacement components are locally available since the Rocker Water Pump can be produced by local artisans using locally available resources.
Full Belly Project’s stress testing suggests the Rocker Water Pump can operate for > 830 hours of continuous use.
- Minimal effort required during pumping.
- Provide a means of recycling PVC pipes.
- Light in weight to facilitate easy portability
Testing performed by the manufacturer determined a pumping rate of 19 L/min and a lifecycle of > 830 hours spent pumping, however, no third-party testing has been completed.
No third-party organizations, only testing performed by the designer.
No specified safety precautions.
The full belly project also offer other innovative technological solutions for rural communities around the world.
Evaluation tests are carried out in the workshop by the manufacturer such as the Rocker Water Pump stress test.
