Product Description

​ROAMfilter Lite is a light and portable water filtration kit. The product filters water through a gravity-fed ceramic membrane, with the ability to remove 6 log bacteria and 4 log. The product is manufactured and distributed by WateROAM.

From November 2018 the product has been discontinued.

Distributions to Date Status

The exact number of ROAMfilter Lite units distributed to date is unknown. As of 2019, Wateroam has reached 83,000 people across 33 countries. Since 2019, Lite units have been distributed through humanitarian organizations to support disaster relief efforts in the Philippines (270 households) and Myanmar (2500 residents).

Design Specifications

The ROAMfilter Lite is lightweight plastic bag primed internally with a membrane. The ceramic filter membrane has a pore size of 0.5?m. The system weighs 400g, with a membrane area of 0.025m2. The filter is functional in the pH range of 4-10, and operating pressure  between 0.005 - 0.03 bar. The filter is made out of Alumina Silicate and is 0.5?m and weighs 300 g, with an attached tube tap of 100g.

The product has a lifespan of 2years at recommended use. After this time the system must be replaced.

The ROAMfilter Lite filters >95% for particulates above 0.5µm at a flowrate of 3-6 L/hr.

Vetted Performance Status

Tested by manufacturer to remove 99.9999% of bacteria and 99.99% of viruses.


This product is not designed to remove taste, chemicals and heavy metals.

    medical device manufacturers have the responsibility to support their products
    throughout their entire lifecycle. No
    mention of this requirement is made in the product specifications. Appropriate retirement and recycling in
    developing countries is required.
