Manufacturer Specified Performance Parameters
Schneider Electric works promoting renewable off-grid products and solutions in regions lacking electricity in a safe, environmentally friendly and sustainable manner. Solar products, including Mobiya, Homaya and Villaya are commercially desployed through adapted business models that ensure innovation and engagement. Both entrepreneurship and engage are promoted through training, funding, and volunteering to accelerate the world toward a healthier future for its people and its climate. Shneider Electric also supports the Energy Access Ventures Fund that will invest of €60 million to transform lives and stimulate economic development across Africa by providing access to electricity for a million people.
Vetted Performance Status
A Solar Home System composed of a 6,9 Wp maximum power polycrystalline silicon panel and V and 20 Ah capacity lithium-iron phospate battery (12,8 V, 1400 mAh) connected to 3 light points in high-brightness setting (2 fixed LED lamps and 1 portable) has the following running hours after a typical day of solar charging (5 kWh/m2/day): it powers the fixed lamps for 3,6 hours and the portable lamp for 4,5 hours, giving a total light output of 520 lumens (380 lumens for the fixed lamps, 140 lumens for the portable) and a total lightning service of 2000 lumen-hours/solar-day). 99% of the original output remains after 2,000 hours run time.
Safety
The Homaya SHS01 is a plug and play device, however, electrical installation and control guidelines provided by Scheneider Electric must be followed to avoid electrical shocks.
Complementary Technical Systems
Scheneider Electric also commercializes other four Solar Home Systems and further solar products and electric appliances.
Academic Research and References
There is no academic research on this specific product, however, Chaurey, A. and Kandapal, T.C. give a review on solar home systems for rural electrification:

Compliance with regulations
This product meets the Lightning Global Quality Standards for Solar Home System Kits. Valid until the 30th of May in 2019. It meets this other certifications: SONCAP (that allows exporting the product to Nigeria), LM79 and LM80 (both related to luminaires), SABS (South African Bureau of Standards), IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) and IDCOL (Infrastructure Development Company Limited that funds renewable infrastructure projects in Bangladesh).
Evaluation methods
Lightning Global verified the Solar Home System Kit Quality Standards in the Energy Resource Institute in New Delhi, India, in the following aspects: drop test, switch and connector cycling, strain relief test, physical ingress protection test. Water protection was not tested as this product is meant for indoor use only. Portable lamp meets water ingress protection requirement with a warning label.
Other Information
For 2018, Schneider Electric is among the top 25 companies in Fortune Magazine’s Change the World ranking. Further awards and recognitions. A video about a Schneider initiative to bring home lightning to communities in South Africa
