Within the company’s sustainability strategy, Schneider electric is developing inclusive business models within electric engineering tranings and entrepreneurship for people from underprivileged backgrounds. Since 2009, they have trained over 130,000 people, developed centres of excellence in Algeria, Colombia, Kazakhstan, and South Africa and they have disseminated projects in 50 countries worldwide, mostly in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The exact number of distributed Homaya solar solutions is unknown, however, over 3,200 households in Cameroon beneficiated from this systems in 2017 and more in remote villages in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. All initiatives for off-grid communities can be seen here.

Design specifications include the solar panel, battery and solar lamps. The solar module is a polycrystalline silicon panel with 6,9 Wp of maximum power point. The battery is Lithium-Iron Phospate type with 12,8 V of nominal voltage, 1400 mAh capacity and with 3 integrated USB ports (12 V DC/each) and LED indicator lights for monitoring the charging of the system. All lamps are LED type (2 fixed, 1 portable with 3 hours backup and 1 inbuilt Torch) with various light outputs, resulting in +500 lumens in total when used all together.
Provided by the manufacturer, support centre available for product information, technical support, purchase product and other support (including mobile apss & videos) enquiries.
The product has a 2-year warranty covering manufacturing defects, however, according to Lightning Global the battery is easily replaceable with common tools.
Battery lifecycle is 5 years.
Schneider Electric works promoting renewable off-grid products and solutions in regions lacking electricity in a safe, environmentally friendly and sustainable manner. Solar products, including Mobiya, Homaya and Villaya are commercially desployed through adapted business models that ensure innovation and engagement. Both entrepreneurship and engage are promoted through training, funding, and volunteering to accelerate the world toward a healthier future for its people and its climate.
Shneider Electric also supports the Energy Access Ventures Fund that will invest of €60 million to transform lives and stimulate economic development across Africa by providing access to electricity for a million people.
A Solar Home System composed of a 6,9 Wp maximum power polycrystalline silicon panel and V and 20 Ah capacity lithium-iron phospate battery (12,8 V, 1400 mAh) connected to 3 light points in high-brightness setting (2 fixed LED lamps and 1 portable) has the following running hours after a typical day of solar charging (5 kWh/m2/day): it powers the fixed lamps for 3,6 hours and the portable lamp for 4,5 hours, giving a total light output of 520 lumens (380 lumens for the fixed lamps, 140 lumens for the portable) and a total lightning service of 2000 lumen-hours/solar-day). 99% of the original output remains after 2,000 hours run time.
