Product Description

Data is collected using an electronic sensor inserted into the ground, which sends it to a central database for analysis. Farmers receive a text message with a guide on the soil, and personalized advice on preferred crop breeds, pest control, current market value of crops, tools required and where to find them. UjuziKilimo is currently available in central, Rift Valley and Nyanza regions. The product is in a piloting stage.

Currently the company has the final prototypes ready for manufacturing in a larger scale. The aim was to prepare logistics and reach out to potential manufacturing partners, to enable mass producing the hardware units for purchase and use by the field agents by July 2017.

Sensors can be purchased directly from manufacturer or a field agent can perform soil tests, users must suscribe for the SMS service with UjuziKilimo Solutions. All costs are inclusive in the analysis services payment. Payments are done via Mobile money M-pesa. Ujuzikilimo is partnering with organizations in the area that are working with farmers, these organizations include Ujuzikilimo's solution on top of what they are currently offering the farmers they are working with.

Design Specifications

The sensors are designed to work as long as there is phone network coverage, they do not need Wi-Fi connectivity; sensors work in Synch with the farmer’s mobile phone. The database uses an algorithm that picks all the necessary data from research institutions, universities, market agencies and other stakeholders, and synchs it, before disseminating it to the farmers.
