The British Berkefeld Household Filter Kit is a tabletop filter produced in the UK by Doulton. The kit includes two, three, or four ceramic candles, two 16 L buckets with snap-on lids, a dispensing tap for the storage container, the required hardware (such as washers and nuts) for installation, and a tool to measure the diameter of the candles. According to the manufacturer, kits sold for emergency response typically come with two silver-impregnated Sterasyl ceramic candles.

1 Black Rubber Sealing Washer for each candle fitted
1 Black Plastic Wing Nut for each candle fitted
1 Plastic dispensing tap with plastic threaded nut and 2 black rubber washers
The Household filter kit has been exported in pallets of 100 to more than 140 countries for disaster response.

The regular Sterasyl filter cartridge containing only silver-impregnated ceramic is not available for purchase online, but the upgraded Super Sterasyl, containing activated carbon for additional chemicals removal is available for sale online for $22.
It is recommended to change the filter cartridges every 12 months for the daily use of a 4 person.
Each Sterasyl filter candle is designed to filter 10,000 liters and last a family 12 months. The Household filter kit contains 2, 3 or 4 ceramic filter candles, with an expected flow rate of output of up to 1 liter per candle per hour.
