InStove 60-L is a smokeless, lightweight, wood-burning Rocket-type institutional cookstove with an integrated aluminium pot, lid and chimney.
This is a 60-L capacity rocket-type portable and durable institutional cookstove that comes with an integrated aluminium pot, lid and chimney.
Designed by InStove, it burns wood and biomass briquettes while saving fuel from 75% to 90% compared to an open fire, it produces no visible smoke and reduces by 90% pollutant emissions, including carbon monoxide and black carbon. A single 60 Liter Stove can prepare about 100 meals per pot and within available drop-in accessories, it can provide safe drinking water, medical sterilization and pressure cooking or canning.
The stove was discontinued in 2018 when InStove went out of business. The design was transferred to Institutional Energy Solutions in Nairobi, Kenya in 2019: IES 60 L Cookstove.

Manufacturing/Building Method
Stoves are mass manufactured in InStove's core factory in Cottage Grove, Oregon in the USA. For 2018, 20 stoves/day are built with negotiations to increase its production. InStove is opening building factories in target regions while exporting stove components and needed production methods from Oregon. Named as the Stove-Factory-in-a-Box production strategy, the first factory was opened in Afikpo in Nigeria in 2013 and exceeds the production of 10,000 units. Negotiations are on-going to open factories in Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Ghana, and Haiti. Production methodology relies on laser-cut critical parts and custom tooling. Critical components are pre-manufactured in Oregon so that most of the assembly can be done by semi-skilled trained workers with hand tools with low power requirements.

Design Specifications
Design specifications include the stove body made of metal and with an insulated design that ensures safe surface temperatures to prevent burns. It has a fuel and air inlet at the bottom and comes with an integrated aluminium pot, lid and chimney. It has an insulated metal combustion chamber built from high-temperature 310 stainless steel and 601 nickel alloys. Body diameter is 59 cm. The stove weighs 38 kgs and boxed shipping dimensions are 101 x 61 x 98 cm.
Technical Support
Provided by the manufacturer and its trained workers in Nigeria and soon in other African countries. Instructional video and users manual available.
Replacement Components
This product has interchangeable parts that allow simple field repairs, following the users manual. This extends stove life up to 10 years
Lifecycle
InStove cookstove has a 1-year warranty and 5-years expected lifecycle with maintenance-free daily use.
Manufacturer Specified Performance Parameters
InStove's main objective was to design and develop a highly efficient, solid-fuel cookstove for use in institutional settings, primary refugee camps, schools, clinics, hospitals and orphanages. The organization is in negotiations to expand space for boosting stove manufacturing capacity with an ultimate goal to increase production to hundreds of thousands of stoves. Plans for expanding building factories in Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Ghana, and Haiti are also on-going.
Vetted Performance Status
This 60-L institutional stove boils 30 litres of water in 45 minutes while consuming 1,5 kgs of fuel and with a thermal efficiency of 50%. Full results on the ISO/IWA Water Boiling Test conducted in Aprovecho Research Center labs in 2013 can be found in the references section.
Safety
Potential hazards related to the operation of this product concerns respiratory diseases linked to the burning of traditional biomass and domestic accidents such as accidental burning or spill-overs.
Complementary Technical Systems
InStove also commercializes drop-in accessories to provide safe drinking water, medical sterilization and an alternative fuel-briquette press.

Compliance with regulations
International Organization for Standardization/Volunteers in Technical Assistance (ISO/VITA) performance standards for the Water Boiling Tests (WBT), a laboratory-based test that can be used to measure how efficiently a stove uses fuel to heat water in a cooking pot and the quantity of emissions produced while cooking. In WBT Tier 0 is the lowest performance level, and Tier 4 the highest. A stove belongs to a Tier if all of its performance indicators meet the criteria for that Tier. Test results prove that stoves are “Tier 4” in 9 out of 10 categories, and “Tier 3” in the remaining category.

Thorough and reliable details. Thanks. Perhaps more information about places it could be used (schools, hospitals, orphanages, etc). Also I do not see specific mention of the accessories (autoclave, pasteurizer, pressure cooker) so it might be nice to include those options if possible.
